Welcome to your Diocesan Minister’s Conference

for licensed clergy
and licensed lay ministers

Yarnfield Park, Yarnfield, Staffordshire ST15 0NL
13 - 16  November 2017

Warm greetings as we look forward to our next ministers’ conference. The last two, in 2011 and 2014, were widely regarded as outstanding in many ways. I am very confident about this one too.

I am excited by the ‘sent by Jesus’ theme. Ministry can be a hard slog, and a reminder of why we are doing it, of the power behind us, and of our personal relationship with Jesus, seems very timely.

I deeply value our fellowship together in ministry, whatever our place of service or our speciality. Time together to relax, to reflect, to learn, and to encourage one another, must be a high priority.

I look forward to seeing you at Yarnfield Park.

I am looking forward to the plans of the Conference Group coming together (I pray God will be at work in each of us and bless us).  We have some wonderful speakers – Professor David Ford, Bishop Anne Hollinghurst, Mark Russell and Bishop Donald, as well as excellent workshop leaders.

David Ford has asked for all those coming to prepare in three ways:

To read the Gospel of John twice, the first time asking the question, 'Who is Jesus?', and the second time asking, 'What does it mean to be sent as Jesus was sent?'; and, third, by praying the Lord's Prayer in the light of John Chapter 17.

We have tried not to overfill the programme this time and we are offering you a choice on the way you can reflect on the teaching input.

The worship team has organised a varied programme of services with something for everyone.  We are pleased to welcome Steven Grahl, Director of Music at Peterborough Cathedral as part of the worship team.

An email will be sent to at the beginning of November with full details, including your workshop choice.  In the meantime please visit Yarnfield Park’s website to view their facilities –

I would encourage you to visit our exhibitions page. CRfl bookshop are with us for the duration of the conference.  If there is anything in particular you wish them to stock, or order beforehand, do contact them.

‘May we all be expectant of hearing what God has to say through our speakers and each other. May we all be ‘sent by Jesus’.

The Conference Prayer

Heavenly Father,

you sent your son Jesus Christ

to show us your kingdom

and to light our way into your presence

by his words and his actions,

by his life, his death and his rising again.

And now we are sent by Jesus

to make disciples of all nations

to show the world your kingdom

and to light the way for others

by our words and our actions,

by our lives and our prayers.

May we go out in faith and joy

sustained and strengthened by your Holy Spirit

in the name of Jesus who sends us

for the glory of your kingdom.

With grateful thanks to Ecclesiastical Insurance, Carter Jonas, Church Edit and Hunt and Coombs for supporting the 2017 Diocese of Peterborough’s Ministers Conference
