Historic Churches Support Officer

• 3 year fixed-term post, full time (35 hours per week)

• Based in Northampton with extensive travel

• Salary: £30,000-£32,000 depending on experience, plus membership of a non-contributory pension scheme

The Diocese of Peterborough has more than 350 church buildings in Northamptonshire, Rutland and Peterborough. The vast majority of these are listed, many of them at Grade I and II*.

Our church buildings are a very precious part of the landscape and the spiritual, cultural and community life in the Diocese. They are important for those who gather for worship, for visitors and for the communities in which they are set.

In partnership with Historic England, the Diocese of Peterborough wishes to appoint a Historic Churches Support Officer to help provide support for local parishes in their responsibility to care for their church buildings.

The postholder will bring a demonstrable knowledge of built heritage and funding sources and a willingness to engage with the wider community to:
• Support the long term sustainable future of historic buildings currently used as Anglican places of 
• Identify and support those church buildings which are a priority for both Historic England and the
   Diocese of Peterborough;
• Help parishes identify sources of funding for building projects and provide support in applying for grants
   and build capacity within church communities;
• Improve public access to, and understanding of, Anglican church buildings in the Diocese of
• Signpost good practice procedures for maintenance, conservation, accessibility and ecology; and
• Support the reduction of historic churches at risk throughout the Diocese.

Based from the Diocesan Offices in Northampton, the postholder will work and travel extensively throughout the Diocese. A current driving licence and access to a vehicle will be required. Exceptionally we will consider applications for partial homeworking.

Senior Youth and Children’s Pastor for St Giles, Northampton

St Giles is a church in the centre of Northampton. We are passionate about transformation and seeing lives being changed by the power of Jesus- especially young lives!

We are looking to recruit someone to the post of Senior Youth and Children’s Pastor who will oversee all our ministries to the next generation and their families. The person appointed would be part of our Ministry Leadership Team, responsible for making strategic decisions concerning the life and future of the wider church family.

The person could be ordained or lay but would come with experience of a thriving youth and/or children’s ministry. We are looking for someone with vision, energy, great organisation and communication skills; an inspirational and passionate leader who will grow other leaders.

Youth Minister for Whitefriars Church, Rushden 

An opportunity has arisen for a skilled and passionate Christian, with a strong personal faith to join the staff team of Whitefriars Church, Rushden, Northamptonshire. We are a growing church with a diverse membership and have a variety of groups; therefore there will be the opportunity to work as part of a team.

Contract details:
Salary: gross annual salary of £8,424 (FTE £17,550).
The role is initially scoped for 18 hours a week. Some flexibility in the hours may be required for the post holder to attend evening or weekend activities.
Annual paid holiday entitlement is equivalent to 5 weeks p.a.

Key responsibilities will be:

  • To have overall responsibility, under the authority of the vicar, for all areas of youth ministry, and to uphold all relevant safeguarding requirements
  • To maintain and develop the church’s youth ministry in local schools
  • To organise and lead various activities to reach out to the wider community
  • To lead the youth ministry within the church, coordinating and managing the volunteers involved, with the aim of helping young people to flourish in faith

Whitefriars Church is a Christian organisation and there is a Genuine Occupational
Requirement (GOR) for the role holder to be a committed Christian in accordance with the
Employment Equality (Religion & Belief) Regulations 2003.
Candidates should have experience in a role working with children and/or young people.
