Biography

Christine Allsopp is a former research chemist and a technical editor who was ordained deacon in 1989 to serve as Curate in Caversham and Mapledurham in the Diocese of Oxford. One of the first women in the country to be ordained priest in 1994, she was Team Vicar in Bracknell, Berkshire, until moving in 1998 to be Team Rector of the Bourne Valley near Salisbury, Wiltshire . She was made Rural Dean of Alderbury in 1999 and a Canon and Prebendary of Salisbury Cathedral in 2002. Christine was appointed as Archdeacon of Northampton and installed as an Honorary Canon of Peterborough Cathedral in 2005.

As a Rural Dean Christine was involved in implementing a deanery strategic plan and helped the churches in her deanery to restructure and work collaboratively. She was Chair of Governors of a Church School, and developed close links with Scandinavian churches. The issues of fair trade, and spirituality in the workplace, are of special concern to her.

Archdeacon Christine currently chairs the Diocesan Board of Education and was elected to General Synod in 2005.

She is married to Dennis, a consultant Chartered Biologist. They have three grown-up children.
