Biography
David Painter was born in October
1944 and educated at Queen Elizabeth's School, Crediton. He
then went to Trinity College of Music, London, and later to Worcester College,
Oxford, where he was awarded a BA in 1968 and a MA in 1972, and
a Certificate in Education.
He trained for the ministry at Cuddesdon College,
Oxford, and was ordained deacon
in 1970 and priest in 1971.
He was appointed as the Curate
of Plymouth St Andrew's from 1970 to 1973. During that time he
also became the Chaplain of Plymouth Polytechnic. In 1973 he was
appointed as Curate to Marylebone, All Saints. In 1976 he came
the Archbishop's Domestic Chaplain. In 1980 he was appointed as
the Vicar of Roehampton, Holy Trinity.
During this time he was
a Priest Vicar at Westminster Abbey and also the Rural Dean of
Wandsworth. In 1991 he was made the Southwark Diocesan Director
of Ordinands and also Canon Residentiary and Treasurer of Southwark
Cathedral. He was appointed as the Archdeacon of Oakham and Canon
Residentiary in the Diocese of Peterborough in 2000.
