December 2010 (28 November - 1 January 2010)

Sunday 28 November
Almighty God, give us grace to cast away the works of darkness and to put on the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which your son Jesus Christ came to us in great humility; that on the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious majesty to judge the living and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal; through him who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen

Help us to fulfil our goal of helping to make real the vision that Christ spoke of as “the kingdom of God” where justice reigns. Help us to foster compassion one for another, tolerating damage to no one and oppression by no system. As we remember those living with HIV at this time may we use all our energy and imagination and trusting in your steadfast love be united in conquering disease and fear. [Christian Aid prayer]

Peterborough St John the Baptist

Vicar: Gordon Steele (Maria)
Give thanks for the physical developments in and around St John’s this year, providing much needed facilities inside the church, making it more inviting and accessible, and integrating it into a more spacious city centre landscape. We now embark upon fresh work, and with help from the Diocesan Mission Enabler and others, we pray for a clear discernment of the detail of our mission-vocation. We sense we are called to be a Christian community that provides welcome and hospitality, spiritual space and tranquility, and stepping stones into, and along, the Christian journey, using to the full both the parish church and our daughter church, St Luke’s, which is set in the midst of a multi-faith residential area.
