Resources for worship

Resource papers for parishes
The following resource papers have been produced to assist parishes in developing our worship. For the purposes of PCC discussions, we strongly recommend that PCC members read all the papers prayerfully before the meeting at which they will be discussed.

All the documents below are in the Worship Resources section of the Downloads page of the website. From there you can download each paper.

Worship: giving “worth” to God
Bishop Ian says that worship is a way of life, and should take account of people’s different temperaments and ways of thinking and living.

On being worship centred
Canon Bruce Ruddock (Diocesan Liturgical Officer) outlines what church worship is, what it should achieve, and how we should approach it.

Making and keeping the Sunday Eucharist special
A check list of things to look out for and fresh ideas to inject into each section of this service, based on “A vision for growth” by the Very Revd Jeffrey John.

Integrating children into the Eucharist
This is in two parts:
· Why the Eucharist is important for children.
· Practical ideas to help them integrate (and also enhancing the adult experience).
It is based on papers produced by Mrs Pam Jones, Diocesan Children’s Officer.

Starting midweek worship
Some people (especially parents and children) are often more able to attend worship midweek than on Sunday. This checklist of ideas compiled by Diocesan Mission Enabler Tim Sledge will help you consider starting a “fresh expression” of worship for such people.

Putting the world into worship
Worship should relate to, not escape from, daily life and global issues, suggests David Wiseman, Diocesan Social responsibility Adviser. Here are some ideas and resources to improve the connection between church and the world we spend most time in.

Tools and resources
A list to pick and choose from.

A simple worship audit
Visit your own church next Sunday with this questionnaire and see what it might feel like to a visitor! You can use the results to inform your discussion at the PCC.

Discussion guide for PCCs
A simple two-question discussion starter for the PCC which is responsible, with the minister, for overseeing and developing the worship of the parish church.
