Youth - child protection

Introduction

Everyone with access to children or young people under the age of 18, including young leaders aged 16-18, need to have a CRB clearance. The Diocese acts as an agent, your parish has a Child Protection Officer and it is absolutely crucial that you, as a Youth Leader or another responsible person, is sure that everyone involved in such work has a CRB check.

In addition, we would encourage everyone who has a CRB check to undertake training. The Diocese offers a range of training events. Full details of any current events are published on this site (Youth What's On) and will be made available in various hard copy mailings. Please encourage all of those who work with children and young people to undertake training and please make sure they have the necessary CRB clearance. Failure to do so may result in the invalidation of insurance covers .

As a Diocese, we produce a range of information about children and young people and Child Protection. We have available an excellent CD-ROM with templates of all sorts of forms, including a Parish Child Protection Policy.

There is a range of additional materials available, including very useful acetate sheets which can be pinned up in vital areas around your church and excellent help leaflets, again laminated, which can be carried in a handbag or wallet, to remind people what to do when and how. So, if you would like any further information, see below.

In addition to the excellent work we do in the diocese with regard to Child Protection, there are a range of other agencies operating, one of the best of which is the Churches Child Protection Advisory Service, with regular magazines, training events and lots more. They are well worth a look at. Take a look at their website – www.ccpas.co.uk – for further details.
