Rutland

Thinking of Working in Youth Work?
Then it’s best to get some training first. An excellent new booklet from Churches Together in England called Youth Work Matters – ideas, information, inspiration for all engaged in youth work gives all the lowdown on courses, places and opportunities for training for different forms of youth work. Emerging Evangelists Institute
Is looking to train tomorrow’s evangelists – a national two-year interactive programme to help equip those God has called to proclaim evangelism is happening from the Billy Graham Organisation and, if you would like further information, then email jwilson@bgea.co.uk.

Christian Camping International’s Holiday Leaders’ and Organisers’ Forum – 8 March
This one day event, in Luton, is for those organising holidays and camps. The focus this year is on the issue of 'Residential Disillusion' - the 'low' that many young people feel after a residential event is over and how you can combat this. Topics will also include programming for late teens, coping with a crisis, and evaluating the effectiveness of your event.

Youth Volunteering
Youth volunteering charity v has launched vinvolved, a new national youth volunteering programme designed by and for young people, which aims to make volunteering a compelling choice for 16 to 25 year olds by tapping into their passions and concerns. The programme will, among other things, establish youth ambassadors to champion volunteering and vinvolved teams to encourage more community organisations to open their doors to young volunteers. http://www.wearev.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=152&Itemid=48

Church of England Core Competencies
The Church of England has agreed a core range of competencies, learning outcomes and evidence of assessment for those working with young people on behalf of the Church of England. We will be considering what the ramifications for this are in Peterborough Diocese. More details will be out very soon. Infusion Young Leader Training
Infusion is an excellent training programme for young leaders offered from at Crusadors, now known as Urban Saints. www.life2themax.net/infusion. Strongly recommended by a range of young people who have undertaken it, it includes DVDs, music, workbooks and much more and is an excellent way to help keep your older young people involved to develop their skills and abilities and give them the opportunity of real responsibility.

Learning Opportunities in Northamptonshire

NAYC – The Northampton Association of Youth Clubs
Offer a wide range of training on subjects including Introduction and Process of Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Starting a new Youth Club, Risk Assessment, Active Listening, Basic Group Work Skills, Basic Youth Work Skills, Empowering Young People and Decision Making, Youth Forums and Management Committees, Managing a Youth Project, Visits and Journeys, Informal Education and Youth Work Games and Activities. Spectrum
This is a basic training package for those wishing to engage in Christian youth work. Paul is willing to offer Spectrum courses if the interest level is high enough. There is a basic introduction called getting started, which is a resource for anyone beginning to work with young people and then the full course of twelve sessions. The course cannot operate with less than the minimum of 12 students.

Open University
Now offering training in a whole variety of different capacities for people working with children and young people. www.openuniversity.co.uk/education. There are certificated courses including Engage, Elevate, Spectrum, What Every Volunteer Youth Worker should Know.

Live Wires for Leadership
An organisation who create a wonderful training pack that Paul has with loads of resources in it to help develop teams. Folk are welcome to borrow the pack. They belong to the Teal Trust and you can find out more about them by emailing info@teal.org.uk. They do occasional training events at different venues around the country to help build teams.

Core Skills for Children's Work
An excellent book from Barnabus publications about developing and extending key skills for children’s ministry. There is a whole developmental programme coming on line for those involved in the slightly younger age range of youth work. www.cgmcontheweb.com
