A Night in the Nave Raises Over £28,000

Light Project Peterborough’s 2026 Sleep Out, A Night in the Nave, has raised an inspiring £28,389 so far, with donations continuing until 11 April. The event brought together 84 participants, including Bishop's Missioner Becky Dyball, inside the historic Peterborough Cathedral to experience a small glimpse of the cold and uncertainty faced by those experiencing homelessness.

Held on Thursday 19 March 2026, the evening offered simple food and drink similar to what is served daily at The Garden House, where over 200 people seek help each month. Participants also listened to stories from individuals with lived experience of homelessness, creating a powerful sense of connection and empathy.

The atmosphere throughout the Cathedral was warm and supportive, with many expressing deep appreciation for the opportunity to reflect, learn and contribute.

Funds raised from A Night in the Nave will be shared between Light Project Peterborough, the Bishop's Charity for 2026 which works with people facing homelessness, addiction, mental health challenges, isolation and disadvantage, and Peterborough Cathedral, helping to care for a place that has welcomed the community for centuries.

Matt Edgeley, Fundraising and Marketing Officer said; 'A huge thank you to everyone involved in making A Night in the Nave such a wonderful event. It was incredible to have over 80 people coming together for one evening to raise money and to gain a small glimpse into homelessness. The feedback we received in the morning shows that we often take things such as a warm bed and a roof over our heads for granted. We hope to host this event in the Cathedral again next year'

This year’s Sleep Out stands as the charity’s most successful yet, both in participation and funds raised, demonstrating the compassion and commitment of people across the city who are determined to ensure that every person has a place of safety, dignity and belonging.
