Ringstead C of E Primary School teacher, Julia Grunill, has been named a silver award winner of the Teacher of the Year in a Primary School category in the prestigious Pearson National Teaching Awards for their incredible impact on their pupils and school community.
Ringstead Headteacher, Helen Roberts, said: “Julia is a dynamic teacher in only her fourth year of practice, whose immersive approach to history and reading has transformed learning at Ringstead Church of England Primary School.
“She stands out for making learning tangible and experiential, through exciting events such as an annual on-site archaeological dig where pupils uncover artefacts and present findings, rooting history in their own community. She has an exceptional range of professional partnerships - from Historic England and Chester House to authors and re-enactment groups - which she leverages to bring expert knowledge, authentic experiences and national opportunities directly to her pupils.
“Her inclusive practice is equally powerful. By carefully scaffolding support, pupils with high SEND needs gain the confidence to participate fully. Driven by a belief that every child should see themselves in learning, Julia creates a culture where curiosity, confidence and ambition flourish - benefiting not only her classroom but the whole school community.”
Ringstead C of E Primary School is located in the Higham Deanery and part of the Peterborough Diocese Education Trust.
Julia is among 99 outstanding teachers, lecturers, leaders, support staff, and education settings honoured as Silver Winners in this year’s awards on National Thank a Teacher Day, in recognition of their dedication and impact.
National Thank a Teacher Day, and the Pearson National Teaching Awards are run by the Teaching Awards Trust, an independent charity established over 25 years ago to celebrate the transformative impact of education, shining a spotlight on the pivotal roles teachers, support staff, colleges, schools and early years educators play in inspiring young people, every single day.
Julia will now be in with the chance of winning the prestigious Gold award, which will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony in London and on BBC One’s The One Show later this year.
