We are delighted to welcome Carole Fitzsimons as our new Diocesan Safegarding Advisor. Overseeing all the safeguarding training and policy in the diocese, supported by Christine and Angie, Carole will be the main link between the parishes and the diocese and will continue our journey to making church a safer place for all.
Carole recently retired as a Detective Sergeant after 30 years with Northamptonshire Police. During her service she completed secondments to the Child Exploitation Online Protection (CEOP) at The National Crime Agency, the College of Policing as a national trainer in mobile phone forensics and undercover online investigations. She also worked at the East Midlands Special Operations Unit as the first Cyber Protect Officer and in 2020 worked at INTERPOL in Lyon in the Crimes against Children’s directorate and managed Project Soteria which was about preventing sexual abuse and exploitation in the Aid Sector.
Carole has two grown children and a “fur baby” French bulldog called Eric. She enjoys boxing for fitness and running, she is currently training for the London Marathon. She is hoping her Marathon effort will raise funds to support two local charities that are close to her heart, Jorgies Buddies who provide personalised comfort bears to children who have serious long term medical conditions and Service Six a children’s charity that provides counselling and support, and of which Carole is the Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Carole is delighted to take up the role of the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor at Peterborough, the title of which will soon be changing as a result of national recommendations from Advisor to Officer. She is keen to get out and visit the parishes to see all the good work going on and look at developing a support network for the Parish Safeguarding Officers. She has already delivered her first Leadership Safeguarding Training course and is looking forward to getting fully involved in all aspects of the training programme.
