Understanding Christianity Day 1

The resource called Understanding Christianity: Text Impact Connections, offers an approach to teaching and learning about Christianity with units of work and supporting resources from EYFS to Year 9. It was launched at Lambeth Palace on 26th May 2016.

Understanding Christianity sets the bar for the quality of teaching and learning about Christianity in our schools and academies. It reinforces the messages we have been giving over the last few years about ‘digging deeper’ and engaging children and young people with the big ideas and concepts of the Christian faith. The teaching approach is one of theological enquiry, and the units of work support both continuity and progression.

Following recommendations from the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring[1] and the Teacher Development Trust[2] that effective training should be intense and sustained, the expectation is that teachers in primary schools will have 12-15 hours of CPD on Understanding Christianity. There will be gaps between encounters when schools will try out the approach, returning to explore further.

The Resources

The original resources issued to schools who trained between 2016 and 2019 are no longer available due to production costs. Those who attend this training must bring the school’s copy of the Understanding Christianity resource with them. (For anybody attending from a school that has not previously had somebody trained a new more slimmed down resource pack will be available and, once trained, the full resources will be available online).

How the training will be offered in our Diocese

7 lots of training for Understanding Christianity have already taken place in the Diocese and c100 of our 103 schools have attended. However, due to popular demand we are offering a further opportunity to access the training as detailed below.

Participants must attend all 3 days of the training and non-attendance will result in a charge being made, as there are only a limited number of places available. Day 1 will take place at Hayfield Cross CofE Primary School, Kettering

Tuesday 10 November 2020

09:30AM - 03:30PM

Hayfield Cross CofE Primary School, Hayfield Cresent, Kettering NN15 5FJ

Entry details:

Diocesan schools with a Service Level Agreement will receive the three training day encounters as part of their SLA (for one delegate).  If the school does not have the previous resources, then a charge of £80 will be made to cover the cost of the resource. PDET schools will receive the training package and resources free as part of their central support charge for 1 candidate.  For schools without a SLA and all other schools and academies the cost will still be heavily subsidised by the Diocese at £200 per delegate, which includes the three training day encounters and refreshments. An additional charge of £80 will be made for all schools who need to purchase the resource.
