Look upon the Lord

Psalm 34 verse 5 tells us to ‘Look to the Lord’. St Clare of Assisi tells us to ‘Gaze upon the Lord’. Using the image of the St Damiano Cross as a starting point for our reflections, we will consider what it might mean to cultivate an attitude in life of ‘looking to the Lord’. In the middle of Lent, this day provides a way of preparing for the coming of Passiontide and Holy Week.

The day will include time to reflect on our own experiences of God, some reflections from Sr Rachel, as well as time to be quiet.

Open to all, and for those who have no previous experience of quiet days and silence, guidance will be given as how to spend times of quiet.

Please bring a packed lunch. Reserve a place here or for more information please contact Sr Rachel Overton sister.rco@icloud.com

Germinate Lecture 2019: Salt, Light and Feet of Clay

Often when we think about church and leadership we think immediately of clergy of various descriptions. But what about head teachers, office managers, newspaper editors, financial controllers, magistrates, farm managers, school governors, youth football coaches, scout leaders and chief executives?

In rural, suburban and urban communities across the UK, congregations are peppered with individuals such as these with spheres of influence that may never be touched by traditional forms of leadership within our churches

Launde 900: Mark – The Gospel

Join us for this Ancient Wells – Living Water event to mark the 900th anniversary of Launde Abbey, as David Newman performs Mark – The Gospel.

The books we now call the Gospels began as stories passed from one person to another in marketplaces, synagogues and homes as people remembered and shared the amazing news about Jesus.

In a return to that ancient experience our 900th anniversary celebrations kick off with our Warden, David Newman, performing his acclaimed Mark – the Gospel, a compelling recitation of the entire Gospel of Mark from memory.

Come and experience perhaps the most dramatic and direct of the Gospels from beginning to end as it was originally meant to be heard.

The performance will include an extended intermission with finger buffet.

Launde 900: The Great Celebration

Join us for this Ancient Wells – Living Water event to mark the 900th anniversary of Launde Abbey: a celebration of the Abbey’s anniversary and a great day out for all the family!

The day begins with a great service of celebration led by the Bishops from the dioceses of Leicester and Peterborough. During the service we’ll sing, hear readings and poetry, reflect together on the value of prayer, silence and retreat, and take an opportunity to give thanks for the work of the Abbey. We’ll also commit ourselves afresh to the continuing ministry of Launde: our heart of prayer, our warmth of hospitality, and our service of the wider church and community.

The service will be followed by an afternoon packed with events and activities to suit all ages and tastes: poetry readings with Malcolm Guite, medieval archery, walks in the grounds and Launde woods, tours of Launde, and so much more.

A 9 day Pilgrimage to Israel and Palestine

Following in the Footsteps of Jesus led by The Rt Revd Donald Allister

A pilgrimage to the Holy Land is a very special experience. My testimony, shared by many who have travelled with me before, is it that the bible comes to life in remarkable ways. In addition, today’s situation in Israel and Palestine, inseparable from the very complex history, is seen and experienced quite starkly.
We will have opportunities to meet, listen and talk to ordinary people as well as community and other leaders.

The pilgrimage is open to all. However, please bear three things in mind: first, we will be worshipping as Christians each day; second, a reasonable degree of fitness is needed, as we will have to do quite a bit of walking, including up hills and steps and on uneven rocky ground; third, although we will eat well with lovely Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food, and the restaurants we use are very helpful and hospitable, it may not always be possible to meet every dietary requirement in the way you might be used to.

This won’t be a holiday, though it may well refresh those parts that holidays can’t reach.  It will be stimulating, deeply moving, perhaps emotionally exhausting. You will almost certainly be changed.

I hope you can join us.

+Donald
