Light Project Peterborough (LPP) is a charity that strives to make a positive difference whilst encouraging others to do the same so we can make Peterborough a better place for all. The charity was first registered in January 2015 with its biggest project, the Garden House (Gravel Walk, PE1 1YU), opening in October 2018. This project is at the heart of Peterborough City centre and has become Peterborough’s ‘Homeless Hub’, being the first place people come to when they experience homelessness.
In 2025, 989 guests were supported at the Garden House with a total of 18,733 visits. They helped 577 guests to move off the streets and into accommodation during the same period. Not only do they provide food, drink and clothing, but also access to a wide range of services in one place. This makes a huge difference in the journeys of so many people which has allowed a quicker, and smoother, move-on out of homelessness.
Our other projects include:
• Street Chaplaincy – Christian volunteers that support those in the city centre who are in distress, in need of a listening ear, or are needing to be signposted to support services. The Chaplaincy work includes teams in Peterborough city centre in the day and at night time, local pubs and at the Garden House).
• Peer Advocacy – People with lived experience who have been helped at the Garden House undertake a six-day training programme and a six-month volunteering period. During this time, the Peer Advocates will develop skills and knowledge from supporting others which increases the chances of securing future employment, training or education.
• Emergency Accommodation – Light Project Peterborough have provided emergency accommodation in the form of single person units, night shelters and hotels to those living on the streets and are facing barriers or challenges in securing temporary accommodation. In 2025, they provided 2,323 nights of emergency shelter.
• Homeless Health Hub - A big part of the support provided at the Garden House involves facilitating access to health services for the people we help. This is called the Homeless Health Hub. Having access to health and care professionals on-site at the Garden House and through outreach on the Health Outreach Bus helps to overcome barriers that prevent them from accessing mainstream services.
• Supporting others – Light Project Peterborough try to connect with, and support, churches and community groups through Across Peterborough in the form of a website, newsletter and Facebook page. LPP has led on the formation of Peterborough Christians for Social Action (PC4SA) and the Peterborough Christian Leaders Forum (PCLF) with the aim of making Peterborough a better place for all, particularly those in need.
Every year, Light Project Peterborough help hundreds of people by providing food, shelter, information, advice, and support and we can only do this thanks to your contributions. Every donation received really makes a huge difference to the lives of the broken-hearted, the oppressed, and the poor in our community.
To help you visualise the impact of your contribution, please see below what donations could go towards.
• £5 could provide a hot drink to someone every day for a month.
• £10 could feed someone for a week.
• £20 could help LPP put together the essential items a person needs when moving into accommodation.
• £50 could provide emergency accommodation for a person in desperate need.
