Diocesan Library Book Amnesty

The Diocesan Library is holding a book amnesty to help find several hundred books which are missing from its shelves.  Books are often lent out on an extended period, but sometimes when people move, or change roles books can get forgotten and turn up years later when another house move or similar promotes a clear out.

Honorary Librarian Simon Villette says: ‘the Library is a great resource for the Diocese and we are very happy to have books on long term loan as long as they are being used. We know, however that they can sometimes get forgotten so this is a reminder to everyone to have quick look through the piles in their study, the dusty stack in the dining room, or the heaps piled under their bed and return anything they are no longer using so it can be loaned out to another interested person’.

The situation was exacerbated by the Covid lockdowns when loans had to be extended by necessity and when we all started returning to a more normal way of life there were other priorities.

The Diocesan library has more than 10 000 resources and is open to all, anyone can register to borrow items whether in a role within the Church or not, and you can view the full catalogue on the website. There is also a Children and Youth library including puppets, puzzles and godly play games alongside age appropriate books.

If you find any of the library resources at home please drop them into to Bouverie Court or the Peterborough Office whichever is closer and we will arrange their safe return.  If you have resources at home but are unable to drop them off, please email  library@peterborough-diocese.org.uk to arrange for them to be collected.
