Remembering Charles Taylor

It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the death of Charles Taylor, the former Dean of Peterborough from 2007 to 2016.

A friend to all in the Diocese, Charles was committed to the cathedral's role as 'mother church', modelling a generous Christian hospitality at wider diocesan and civic occasions.  Bishop John said ‘I was grateful for how Charles made me very welcome when first arriving in the Diocese. He was a delightful colleague and it was good to share in the mission and ministry of the cathedral.

The current Dean of Peterborough Cathedral, The Very Revd Chris Dalliston, paid this tribute to his predecessor: 'We were deeply saddened to hear of the death of the former Dean, Charles Taylor. Charles had fought a long battle with ill-health in retirement, exhibiting throughout, all the qualities of tenacity, courage, faithfulness and good humour for which he was rightly renowned. Charles was energetic, gregarious, generous, and fun and he will be missed by very many. Our prayers are especially with his wife Catharine and their family. May he rest in peace and rise in glory.'
