Children and Families Leader for Tove Benefice

Salary: The position is part time up to 24 hours per week £14 per hour, plus 10% non-contributory pension. 

Annual Leave: 25 days; plus Bank Holidays and an additional 3 days between Christmas and New Year. 

Responsible to: Rev. Paula Challen (line manager), Benefice Children and Families Committee 

Key Relationships: Tove Benefice Ministry Team, Church School Head Teachers, Volunteers 

Purpose of Post: To continue to develop mission and ministry with children and families in Tove Benefice. To work effectively with young people in an intergenerational context. This will entail working with schools, local churches, care givers and the community to develop partnerships that promote discipleship and evangelism of children and families in accordance with the Growing Faith Adventure*

Our current ministries include: toddler groups, collective worship / assemblies in both church and community primary schools, one off children and families events, prayer spaces, monthly family worship and afterschool clubs.  We are also currently exploring working ecumenically with our local secondary school.  

Based: across the Tove Benefice 

Principal Responsibilities 

  1. To work directly with children and families in Tove Benefice and local schools, to establish an innovative and lasting ministry.  

  2. To be a part of support networks such as Children’s Ministry Course and Towcester Hub. The expectation is that this will help develop ideas, skills, resources and relationships. 

  3. To work flexibly and collaboratively within the Ministry Team and play a leading role in services and worship devoted to children and families. 

  4. To provide advice, support and encouragement in developing an intergenerational culture and worship.

  5. To prepare, present and report to the Benefice Children and Families Committee on a regular basis. 

  6. To work alongside our Safeguarding Officer in promoting and applying the Tove Benefice safeguarding policy. 

  7. To lead on the production and regular updating of Risk Assessments that relate to work with children and families. 

  8. To identify, recruit, train and encourage volunteers to work with children and families.

  9. To lead on the promotion of Children and Families Ministries and engagement with the wider community through advertising and social media. 

  10. To attend regular supervision and annual review meetings.  

  11. To undertake other duties as required commensurate with the post. 

Terms and Conditions

This is a semi-rural Benefice with limited public transport links. The role will include travel across the Benefice and local area, so a full driving licence and own transport or other means to travel between churches in a timely manner would be required.

There is a genuine occupational requirement that the post holder is a committed Christian.  

Our expectation is that the post holder will be willing to commit to the worshipping communities in the Tove Benefice, and take an active role alongside our ministry and leadership teams.
